Deep breathing technique with imagery

by Justin

I have found that this deep breathing technique with imagery is useful to reduce my stress.

What I do is every time that I breathe in I imagine that the breath that I breathe in is fresh and pure. I imagine that this air is energized with the power to heal and cleanse the body.

I imagine that the air travels up through my nose and into the top of my head and down my spinal column with every inhalation.

This pure clean air circulates through my body.

As I breathe out I imagine the air dirty and full of toxins and stress. Ridding myself of this stress and toxins occurs on each exhale.

Deep breating technique from yoga and zen meditation
by: Kell

Hi Justin,

Thanks for that deep breathing technique with imagery.

The deep breathing exercise that you describe is similar to some of the ones I have learned in Zen meditation as a process to cleanse the body and mind.

By doing this deep breathing exercise you may notice that after five minutes or so that the body becomes more relaxed as your reduce stress.

I have also heard that people report the imagined exhaled air turns from gray to an off-color white....which is symbolic of this breathing technique completely relaxing and cleansing you.
