Delegation Can Reduce Your Stress and Increase Productivity

Delegation is one of the most useful but least used tools of time management.

There is only so much work that you can do in a day. If you find that you have too much to do then delegating some of your workload could beneficial to you and your employees.

Delegating has many benefits - if done well! It can:

  • Free up your time to do tasks that are important to you.
  • Can train employees and colleagues.
  • Can increase morale.
Delegating poorly can ruin morale and result in greater absenteeism and stress for you and your colleagues.

For example, often I have seen the busy manager lump work onto even busier employees which is poorly explained to people who don’t know how (or don’t have the time) to do it.

The end result is greater stress, poorer productivity a decrease in morale and you guessed it – greater absenteeism.

One way examine which work is to be given to others is to examine your time management worksheet and see which tasks could be easily trained, or which tasks others are motivated to learn about.

Another consideration is to look at the return on investment that that task gives you. Try delegating tasks which have a low return of investment for you and a high return for the other person.
